Hadi Choopan vs Samson Dauda: Conditioning and Density vs Height, Shape and Structure

UPLIFT IRON CLUB

Hadi Choopan and Samson Dauda are almost a perfect demonstration of why elite bodybuilding cannot be reduced to one number. Choopan wins attention with dense muscle, brutally clear separation and the ability to make a compact frame look enormous once he locks into a pose. Dauda does it with a taller silhouette, long muscle bellies, broad shoulders, a small-looking waist and the kind of flowing structure that can make an Open bodybuilder look both huge and aesthetic.

Their rivalry has already swung both ways. Choopan beat Dauda at the 2024 Arnold Classic, while Dauda turned the tables later that year and won the 2024 Mr. Olympia. At the 2025 Olympia, Hadi finished second behind Derek Lunsford while Samson slipped to fourth. That leaves both men chasing a different version of redemption heading into the 2026 Olympia, where Men's Open prejudging is scheduled for September 25 and the title is decided on September 26.

So if they are standing next to each other again, what actually separates them? It is not simply “conditioning versus size.” The more interesting battle is how each physique creates impact through proportions, muscle quality, posing and the specific mandatory shots that judges see.

1. Hadi Choopan’s Advantage: Density, Detail and Visual Pressure

Choopan’s best look is built around muscle quality. His quads rarely look merely “big”; they look carved. His arms, shoulders and torso tend to show deep separation, and when his conditioning is fully on, the transition from one muscle group to the next becomes extremely obvious under stage lighting.

That density matters because bodybuilding is judged visually, not by tape measure. A shorter athlete can look larger than expected when every area is thick, full and sharply separated. Hadi is especially effective in poses where his compact proportions let him fill the frame and create a compressed, aggressive look.

The classic example is abs-and-thigh. His quad detail, midsection control and overall hardness can turn that pose into a major scoring opportunity. He also tends to be dangerous in most-muscular variations because his chest, delts, arms and traps stack into one dense image instead of spreading across a taller frame.

For 2026, the intriguing question is whether Choopan can keep that trademark sharpness while carrying more fullness. His camp has talked about adding size to areas such as the legs and chest while keeping the back detailed rather than simply making it bigger. That is a sensible target: Hadi does not need to become the tallest or widest man onstage. He needs to look like the most complete version of Hadi.

2. Samson Dauda’s Advantage: Height, Shape and a Bigger Canvas

Dauda attacks the comparison from the opposite direction. At roughly 5-foot-11, he has considerably more vertical real estate to fill than Choopan. When his physique is full and conditioned, that creates an imposing combination: long limbs with enough muscle to avoid looking stretched, wide clavicles, sweeping legs and a waist that can look surprisingly compact relative to his upper body.

His structure is why poses such as the front lat spread and side chest can be so dangerous. Dauda can create width without sacrificing flow. In profile, his chest, shoulders, arms and thighs can look almost cartoonishly round when he is peaked correctly. That fullness was one of the major reasons he could beat Choopan for the 2024 Olympia title.

The risk with a larger frame is that every weak area is also displayed on a larger canvas. If conditioning is slightly off, there is more surface area that can look smooth. If his back lacks crisp separation, Hadi’s denser look can become more impressive despite the size difference. Samson’s best package is not simply “as big as possible”; it is huge while still showing enough detail to make the size count.

3. The Back Comparison Could Decide Everything

Rear poses are often where Open contests become brutally clear. The judges can compare lat width, back thickness, glute and hamstring conditioning, lower-back detail, balance from top to bottom and whether an athlete can keep all of that visible while actually holding the pose.

Choopan’s advantage is density and the amount of information his physique can show. When his back is dry and separated, the traps, erectors, lats and rear delts can look deeply etched. His shorter torso also creates a compact thickness that reads well from a distance.

Where Samson Can Flip the Pose

Dauda has spent years making his back less of an obvious opening for rivals. His improved width and thickness were a major factor in his 2024 Olympia victory. Because his frame is taller and broader, even a small improvement in back detail can change the entire comparison. If Samson is sharp through the glutes and hamstrings and keeps his back full, his silhouette can overwhelm a shorter opponent.

This is also where conditioning becomes more than visible abs. A bodybuilder can have a crisp midsection from the front and still lose rear shots because the lower back, glutes or hamstrings are not equally dry. Hadi’s reputation forces Samson to match him from behind, not just look bigger from the front.

4. Conditioning Is Hadi’s Weapon — But Samson Has Proven He Can Close the Gap

It is easy to make “Hadi equals conditioning” sound like a cliché, but it remains central to how he wins comparisons. Sharp conditioning makes every strength more obvious: quads look deeper, arms look more separated, the waist looks tighter and the back shows more layers.

Choopan finished second at the 2025 Olympia while Dauda finished fourth, which matters because it shows Hadi entered this season from the stronger recent Olympia baseline. But Samson’s 2024 win is equally important. It proves that Hadi’s conditioning advantage is not automatically enough when Samson combines his structure with sufficient sharpness and fullness.

The 2026 version of Hadi has also been built with more bodyweight during the prep cycle. More size can help him in side and back shots, but only if it survives the final weeks without blurring the detail that makes him special. For Samson, the equation is almost reversed: he rarely needs to convince anyone that he is big enough. He needs the final layers of conditioning to make his shape impossible to dismiss.

5. Pose by Pose: Where Each Man Is Most Dangerous

Front double biceps: close. Hadi brings dense arms, quad detail and an explosive look when he expands. Samson has more height, sweeping lines and improved arm size. This can swing with conditioning and posing execution.

Front lat spread: Samson’s structure gives him a natural advantage. The wider, taller silhouette can look spectacular when his waist is controlled. Hadi needs maximum chest fullness and lat presentation to prevent Samson from simply owning more stage space.

Side chest: Samson is extremely dangerous because his chest, delts, arms and leg thickness can create a huge profile. Hadi can counter with sharper tie-ins and harder conditioning, but this is the type of shot where frame size matters.

Back double biceps: potentially decisive. Samson’s improved back gives him the width and overall balance to compete, while Hadi can win through density, separation and lower-body detail. A small conditioning difference can flip it.

Abs and thigh: Hadi. His quad separation and compact midsection make this one of his most reliable weapons.

Most muscular: Hadi can look brutally dense, but Samson’s sheer mass can turn the pose into a wall of muscle when he is dry enough. This is less automatic than fans sometimes assume.

6. Who Has the Better 2026 Olympia Package?

On paper, Hadi enters the comparison with the stronger recent Olympia result. He was second in 2025 and has built his entire reputation around showing up hard, detailed and difficult to expose in comparisons. If he adds enough fullness to his chest and legs without sacrificing that condition, he has a straightforward path to beating Samson again.

Samson’s ceiling may be visually higher when everything lands at once. He has already shown that his structure, muscle shape and size can beat Hadi on the biggest stage. The catch is that the package has to be complete. If he is even slightly smoother, Hadi’s detail will make the difference obvious under the same lights.

Our read: Hadi has the safer floor; Samson has the more dramatic upside. If both are 95 percent of their best, Choopan’s conditioning and density probably give him the edge. If both hit 100 percent, the comparison becomes much more dependent on individual poses, and Samson’s height, shape and improved back can absolutely beat him.

Of course, neither man is competing in a two-person vacuum. Derek Lunsford is the defending 2025 champion, Andrew Jacked is coming off third, and the 2026 Men’s Open field is deep. But Hadi versus Samson remains one of the most revealing head-to-heads in modern Open bodybuilding because they solve the same judging problem with almost opposite physiques.
