Curry has made his preference unusually clear
Curry has repeatedly said he wants to finish his career with the Warriors. That is different from saying a contract is already agreed. Golden State and Curry still have choices on timing, length and salary, and those choices can affect what the front office is able to build around him.
The two-year maximum is the cleanest headline option. It could keep Curry under contract through 2028-29. But because he is 38, the NBA's over-38 rule limits the structure of an extension, and a shorter agreement or a later negotiation could preserve different kinds of flexibility.
For Curry, there is little reason to manufacture urgency. He is already under contract for the coming season, and Golden State has publicly made clear that it wants him to stay. Waiting gives him more information about the team's direction before locking in the final years of his career.
The competitive part of Curry's message matters most
Curry did not simply say he wants to stay. He paired that goal with another one: remaining competitive. That is where the contract discussion becomes a roster-building story.
