Henry Passed Marcus Allen — and Baltimore’s New Era Started With 506 Yards

The Ravens beat Indianapolis 41-23 after producing 506 total yards, with Henry rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns and Jackson throwing for 324 yards while adding a rushing score. Zay Flowers supplied the early fireworks with a career-high 150 receiving yards before a hamstring injury ended his afternoon.
The result mattered for more than Week 1. Jesse Minter won his debut as Baltimore’s head coach, Declan Doyle’s first game directing the offense produced six scoring drives, and Henry used the afternoon to move past Marcus Allen into third place on the NFL’s all-time rushing-touchdown list.
Lamar and Flowers Broke the Game Open Before Indianapolis Could Settle
Baltimore’s first offensive snap told Indianapolis what kind of afternoon it was about to have. Jackson hit Flowers for 49 yards and, two plays later, ran in a touchdown himself. The Ravens scored twice on their first nine official plays and immediately forced the Colts to chase a game that had barely begun.
Flowers was the explosive center of that start. He finished with five catches for 150 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown, before leaving with a hamstring injury. His ability to turn one completion into a huge field-position swing gave Jackson space to attack without needing to string together long drives every time.
Jackson still produced the volume. He finished with 324 passing yards and a touchdown through the air, while his rushing score reminded Indianapolis that the Ravens can punish defenses even when coverage initially wins. Baltimore’s 506 total yards came from forcing the Colts to defend the full width and depth of the field.
The injury to Flowers is the obvious concern. Rookie Ja’Kobi Lane also left with a wrist issue, meaning Baltimore finished the game without two receivers it expected to use heavily. But the offense did not stall. Once the passing game lost bodies, the Ravens simply shifted the weight of the attack toward Henry.
Henry Turned the Second Half Into Another Piece of NFL History
Henry’s three-touchdown afternoon was not just productive. It changed the all-time leaderboard. His first rushing score tied Marcus Allen at 123 career rushing touchdowns. His second moved him past Allen, and his third pushed the total to 125. Only Emmitt Smith and LaDainian Tomlinson now sit ahead of him on the career rushing-touchdown list.
The way Baltimore used him made the milestone feel even more important. Henry was not merely finishing drives from the 1-yard line. His second touchdown came on a 32-yard run, and he kept grinding through Indianapolis after the Ravens lost Flowers and Lane. He finished with 144 rushing yards and gave the offense a way to keep attacking without asking Jackson to throw on every down.
That is exactly why the Henry-Jackson pairing remains such a difficult structural problem. If a defense widens to contain Jackson and Baltimore’s receivers, Henry gets favorable boxes. If it compresses to stop Henry, Jackson has the arm and mobility to create explosive plays outside. Week 1 did not reveal a new concept so much as show how destructive the old one can still be when everyone is healthy enough to execute it.
Doyle’s first game as offensive coordinator could hardly have produced a clearer identity. Baltimore scored quickly, generated explosives in the passing game, then leaned on Henry when the personnel changed. The Ravens did not need one style of offense to survive all four quarters.
Indianapolis Had Jonathan Taylor — Baltimore Had Too Many Answers
Indianapolis was not without offense. Jonathan Taylor ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns and finished with 121 yards from scrimmage. The Colts scored first, and Taylor repeatedly gave them a legitimate way to answer Baltimore’s physicality.
The difference was what happened when Indianapolis had to move away from that comfort zone. Daniel Jones completed 19 of 31 passes for 166 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and Baltimore generated two sacks and 10 quarterback hits. Roquan Smith’s interception gave the Ravens a short field, while Marlon Humphrey forced a fumble from Taylor to create another momentum swing.
Baltimore outgained Indianapolis 506-251. That is not a narrow statistical edge hidden behind a few lucky scores. It is the profile of a team controlling both how fast the game is played and what the opponent is allowed to do. Even when the Colts found points, they were rarely able to force the Ravens out of their preferred approach.
The opener also offered an immediate endorsement of Minter’s transition into the top job. The Ravens had questions after a disappointing 2025 season and a major coaching reset. One game cannot answer all of them, especially with Flowers’ hamstring now requiring attention, but 41 points, 506 yards and multiple defensive takeaways is about as clean a first impression as a new staff can make.
Baltimore leaves Indianapolis with the win, an offense that already looks comfortable under Doyle and another piece of history for Henry. If Flowers’ injury proves manageable, the bigger message from Week 1 is difficult to ignore: the Ravens’ new era may still be powered by the same impossible choice defenses have faced for years — stop Jackson, stop Henry, and somehow do both on the same snap.
