Flick has also spent the start of the season emphasizing work without the ball. That is the part that can separate an attractive Barcelona from a genuinely durable Champions League contender. A team with this much attacking talent will create chances. Feyenoord did score through Sem Steijn, so there will be defensive details to clean up. Arsenal and Liverpool won the kind of games contenders eventually have to survive
Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Napoli will not generate the same highlight reel as the PSG or Barcelona routs, but it may be every bit as useful when the league phase becomes a race for position.
