Love Scored Twice — Green Bay's Defense Made Dallas Look Ordinary

GOATIFY

The final score at Lambeau Field said Green Bay 23, Dallas 13. The more revealing number was zero: the Cowboys took one of the league's productive offenses into Sunday night and reached halftime without a point. Two Dak Prescott interceptions, a Green Bay opening-drive touchdown and a Jordan Love quarterback sneak created a 17-0 gap that Dallas never truly closed.

Love accounted for two touchdowns, Matthew Golden cleared 100 receiving yards, and the Packers extended their winning streak to three games. Yet this was not a demonstration of a perfectly balanced offense. Green Bay rushed for only 57 yards, while Dallas gained just 48 on the ground. The decisive difference was which team protected possessions, finished important downs and forced the opposing quarterback to operate under pressure. That distinction is becoming central to the Packers' season — and increasingly uncomfortable for the Cowboys.

Two First-Half Picks Turned Dallas' Drives Into a 17-0 Deficit

Green Bay established the shape of the game on its opening possession. Starting deep in its own territory, the offense marched 90 yards over 14 plays before Love found Golden for a nine-yard touchdown. The drive mattered beyond the seven points. It showed that the Packers could survive negative rushing plays and keep possession alive through the air rather than waiting for one spectacular completion to erase a mistake.

Dallas briefly had an opening when linebacker Dee Winters intercepted Love. The play initially appeared capable of producing a defensive touchdown, but a review determined that Golden had touched Winters down at the point of the catch. Instead of a tied game, Dallas took over with an opportunity to respond on offense. That opportunity disappeared when safety Evan Williams read Prescott near the Green Bay goal line and intercepted him at the three-yard line. The difference between an apparent defensive score and no points was enormous in a game that would be decided by ten.

The Packers then worked into field-goal range and Trey Smack made a short kick to extend the lead to 10-0. Dallas again advanced across midfield late in the second quarter, only for rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse to collect his first career interception after CeeDee Lamb slipped during the route. A receiver losing his footing does not automatically make the quarterback's entire decision reckless, but the possession still ended without a scoring chance and gave Green Bay another short-term advantage in momentum.

Green Bay turned that second takeaway into a nine-play touchdown drive. A major pass-interference penalty helped the offense move downfield, Golden delivered a key third-down catch after earlier missed opportunities, and Love powered over from one yard with 23 seconds remaining before halftime. The Packers were not simply winning the turnover count. They were converting Dallas' missed chances into sustained possessions and points. That combination explained why a high-output Cowboys attack was suddenly chasing three scores at the break.

Love and Golden Kept Drives Alive Without a Dependable Running Game

Love's passing line — 23 completions on 41 attempts, 276 yards, one touchdown and one interception — was less glamorous than his performance against Chicago a week earlier. It was still productive in the situations Green Bay needed most. The Packers converted 11 of 18 third downs, including their first seven attempts, and Love repeatedly found answers against pressure. A quarterback can play an effective game without posting a dazzling completion percentage when the completions arrive at the moments that determine whether a drive continues.

Golden's evening captured both the promise and the unfinished work in this passing attack. The receiver caught six balls for 104 yards and the game's first touchdown, but also missed several opportunities, including potential scores. Those drops kept the result closer than the flow of play suggested. At the same time, Golden made the contested or high-leverage plays that kept Green Bay ahead. Treating his night as either a flawless breakout or a failure would miss the point: he was central to the win and still left points on the field.

The passing game's responsibility grew because Green Bay could not lean on its rushing attack. The Packers entered Sunday averaging only 60.4 rushing yards per game, last in the league, and produced 57 yards at 2.2 per attempt against Dallas. That is not a foundation a contender wants to rely on as defenses adjust. It meant short-yardage conversions and red-zone execution depended heavily on Love, receiver separation and play design. His goal-line sneak was valuable precisely because the ordinary ground game was not generating much.

After Dallas trimmed the deficit to 17-7 early in the second half, Love converted a fourth-and-three by finding tight end Tucker Kraft for 14 yards. Smack eventually hit from 44 yards to restore a 13-point cushion. Later, Golden crossed 100 yards with another important gain and Smack added a third field goal. Green Bay's offense did not deliver the knockout touchdown, but it prevented Dallas from stacking possessions quickly enough to change the outcome. Sustained drives, even those ending in three points, were a defensive asset because they kept Prescott watching from the sideline.

Green Bay's Defense Closed the Door — Dallas Faces a Different Problem

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott throwing a pass during the 2026 NFL season

Dallas came into the matchup capable of moving the ball in long stretches. Prescott completed 34 of 54 passes for 258 yards, and the Cowboys reached Green Bay territory more than once. But the final line shows how little those opportunities became. Two interceptions eliminated promising possessions, while a rushing attack that totaled 48 yards at 3.2 per carry gave the Packers little reason to retreat from aggressive coverage and pressure. Volume alone did not translate into efficiency.

The Cowboys finally scored when Javonte Williams finished a third-quarter drive with a one-yard run. Prescott had kept that possession alive by connecting with Lamb on fourth down, and the 17-7 score suggested the game might tighten. Green Bay answered with the Kraft conversion and Smack's field goal. The defense then forced two fourth-quarter turnovers on downs before Dallas added a late touchdown pass to Ryan Flournoy with 44 seconds remaining. The failed two-point try ensured that even the final points did not create a plausible one-possession finish.

The Packers have now held three consecutive opponents to 14 points or fewer, a stretch they had not achieved since 2016. The unit's performance is particularly notable because star defender Micah Parsons has yet to be available this season. A defense built on pressure, communication and opportunistic coverage can make opponents pay for mistakes even without its most recognizable player. Williams and Cisse supplied the interceptions against Dallas, but the broader achievement was denying the Cowboys the clean, repeatable drives they normally seek.

Green Bay is 4-2 and carries a three-game winning streak into a divisional trip to Detroit. The Lions will present a different test, especially if the Packers again struggle to run the ball. Dallas, now 2-4, heads toward a meeting with Philadelphia needing to address its own inability to finish drives and its two-dimensional imbalance. The Cowboys can point to a late touchdown and a respectable total of completions; neither changes the fact that their offense failed to score before halftime. The next step is not simply asking Prescott to throw more. It is giving him a more reliable ground game and fewer must-convert situations.

Green Bay won a game in which its rushing offense remained ineffective and its top receiver left several touchdowns uncaught. That is encouraging for a team still looking for its complete offensive identity, because the defense and third-down passing game supplied enough stability to win without everything clicking. Love did not need to be perfect to make the difference.

For Dallas, the score should be more troubling than the late rally is reassuring. The Cowboys had enough possessions and enough passing volume to compete, but giveaways, poor rushing production and stalled drives turned a marquee Sunday-night matchup into a long chase. Green Bay leaves with momentum and clear areas to improve. Dallas leaves with the harder question: why an offense capable of producing so much is finishing so little when the stakes rise.
