Natalia Silva after winning the UFC flyweight title at UFC 332

UFC 332 Was Supposed to Crown a Champion — Instead It Broke the Knockout Record

GOATIFY

UFC 332 arrived with a simple headline: crown a new women’s flyweight champion. It left Salt Lake City remembered for something much stranger. The card produced 11 finishes, including a record run of first-round knockouts, before Natalia Silva and Wang Cong finally forced the night to slow down for a five-round title fight.

That contrast made the event useful as more than a highlight reel. Young contenders did not merely win; several erased established names in minutes. Then Silva showed that the biggest result of the night could still come from control, patience and five-round problem-solving.

The knockout streak became the story before the main event

By the time the main card settled in, UFC 332 had already stopped feeling like a normal numbered event. Fight after fight ended before judges could matter. Anthony Wint needed only 23 seconds. Damian Pinas finished Andrey Pulyaev in 75 seconds. Johnny Walker’s heavyweight debut ended with Mick Parkin knocked out in the opening round.

The pattern kept going. Eleven bouts ended inside the distance, and the event set modern UFC marks for first-round knockouts and total knockouts. That matters because the card had been sold more as a showcase of emerging names than a superstar event. The violence gave those names instant visibility. A prospect winning a decision can move one line in the rankings; a sequence of emphatic finishes can change matchmaking plans overnight.

Payton Talbott turned a prospect test into a statement

Payton Talbott entered the co-main event with the kind of opponent designed to expose whether hype has outrun development. Deiveson Figueiredo is a former two-time flyweight champion with enough experience to punish impatience. Talbott never let that résumé become a factor.

He stopped Figueiredo at 2:09 of the first round, adding the biggest name of his career to a run that already had him moving quickly through bantamweight. The result does not make Talbott a title challenger tomorrow, but it removes the argument that he still needs a veteran gatekeeper before facing the division’s upper tier. At 27, his next booking can reasonably be against a top-10 opponent. UFC 332 was the night he stopped being treated primarily as a prospect and started becoming part of the contender conversation.

Kopylov and Walker made the middle of the card matter

The finish streak was not only about speed. It also produced information. Roman Kopylov stopped Ateba Gautier at 3:12 of the first round, handing one of the division’s most intriguing young power punchers his first professional defeat. Kopylov has always been dangerous when opponents agree to strike at his preferred rhythm; UFC 332 showed he can also punish a prospect whose physicality had overwhelmed less experienced opposition.

Walker’s result carried a different question. Moving to heavyweight can expose a fighter who relied on size lower down, but Walker’s explosiveness translated immediately against Parkin. One win does not make him a heavyweight contender, yet it gives the experiment legitimacy. On a card full of prospects, two veterans reminded everyone that development is not linear and that established fighters can still use one violent night to reset their own trajectory.

Natalia Silva won the one fight that required patience

After hours of quick endings, the main event demanded the opposite skill set. Silva had to manage Wang over five rounds with the vacant flyweight title at stake. She built the early lead with speed, angles and cleaner counters, scored the fight’s most damaging moments, and then survived Wang’s stronger late push to win unanimous scorecards of 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46.

The victory extended Silva’s winning streak to 15 and kept her unbeaten through nine UFC appearances. More importantly, it gave the division an active champion while Valentina Shevchenko recovers from injury. Silva has already said she does not intend to sit and wait for the former champion. That is the right posture after UFC 332. The card rewarded action everywhere, but Silva’s title win showed that control over 25 minutes can still be the most valuable performance of the night.

UFC 332 will be replayed for the knockouts, but its longer-term value is the number of careers it moved at once. Talbott looks ready for a ranked bantamweight step, Kopylov stopped a dangerous prospect, Walker’s heavyweight experiment suddenly has momentum, and Silva leaves with the one result nobody else on the card could claim: a UFC championship.

The records made the night historic. The next matchups will decide whether it was also a turning point.
